Governance

Christ Church is under the authority of the Anglican Diocese of the Mid-Atlantic within the Anglican Church in North America. Our diocese is a regional grouping of parishes and ministries gathered together for the purpose of sharing resources, accountability, and furthering the Kingdom of God.

The Anglican Church in North America is led by the Archbishop: The Most Reverend Foley Beach (elected 2014 for a 5 year term). The Anglican Diocese of the Mid-Atlantic is led by the Bishop: The Right Reverend John A. W. Guernsey (Elected 2011, no term limit). The Christ Church parish is led by the Rector: The Reverend Rebekah Neumann (called in 2009, no term limit).

Christ Church is a local, self-supporting, and self-governing parish. The parish is governed by a vestry which is chaired by the rector, managed by the senior warden, and consists of lay men and women who are elected by the voting membership of the parish for a specific term. The vestry is charged with the oversight of the temporal and business affairs of the parish.

Each Core Value at Christ Church is overseen by a member of the vestry, who casts vision, leads, supports, and encourages the people and activities within their area, and reports to the vestry.

Each November the entire parish meets for our Annual Parish Meeting. This meeting is a time to reflect on the past year, to cast vision for the future, and to elect new vestry members. People who faithfully give, attend, and lead our parish are eligible for vestry service. Current vestry members are:

  • Class of 2017: Mary Derby, Kevin Ilnicky
  • Class of 2018: Mike Stombach, Charlie Meadows
  • Class of 2018: Paul Branch (Senior Warden), Harlan Mathers (Junior Warden)
